Birding Safari

Given the fact that Uganda is located in the equatorial region, it is a country of extra ordinarily startling contrasts. Non of the African country can match its astonishing variance of habitats ranging from rich Savannah, vast wetlands, arid semi-deserts, montane rainforests, lowland, volcanoes and an afro-alpine zone which all cover an altitude of 650 to 5000m.

This prosperity is reflected in the number of birds per square kilometer and it I seen as the highest next to non-in Africa. Although Uganda is a small country approximately 235,000 kilometers squared, it however boasts a national bird list of over 1008 species. This represents more than half the bird species that can be found in the whole of Africa.

Mt.Elgon hiking

Elgon is not a difficult mountain to climb. Aspirant hikers need to be reasonably fit, but no specialized equipment or skills are needed to reach the peaks, and the mountain is not so high that there's a serious risk of the altitude-related illnesses that regularly afflict hikers on the upper slopes of the mounts Kilimanjaro or kenya. Elgon can be climbed at any time of the year, though the dry season (June-August and December-March ). The most favourable months are November and December given the fact that it is when the highland flowers are in bloom. Traditionally, the most popular destination on the Mt. Elgon is the Sipi Falls where the Sipi River rises on the upper slopes of Mt. Elgon before cascading down the foothill over &km to form a series of four pretty waterfalls culminating in a 99m drop at an altitude of 1,775m outside the small trading centre of Sipi. The Sipi are 60km from Mbale by Road .Warm clothing's are highly recommended.

The Rwenzori Mountains are unique among East Africa's major peaks in that they are not Volcanic in Origin, but they do rise directly from the Rift valley floor and their formation , like that of Kilimanjaro and Kenya, was linked to the geological glacial peaks in the Rwenzori's: Mt Speke(4,890M) , Mount Emin (4,727m), Mount Gessi (4,715m) and Mount Luigi da Savoia (4,627m). The Rwenzoris are Known primarily for their challenging hiking and climbing possibilities but the range also supports a diversity of animals including mammal and 177 bird species ,several of the latter being Albertine Rift Endemics.

Uganda Eco Tourism
The term ecotourism was coined in the 1980s. Hector Ceballos-Lascurain is credited with introducing the term. He defined ecotourism as: “Travelling to relatively undisturbed or un-contaminated natural areas with the specific objective of studying, admiring, and enjoying the scenery and its wild plants and animals, as well as any existing cultural manifestations (both past and present) found in these areas” (Ceballos-Lascurain, 1987). According to The Ecotourism Society (1991), ecotourism is responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people,so Uganda currently branded as gifted by nature, supports all activities geared towards conservation of nature. Alpha Adventures,Tours & Safaris gladly provides you eco tour & safaris that will bring out the best of Uganda and its efforts to preserve nature.
